My teammates are an amazing group of people, and I enjoy being able to interact every day with colleagues who share a common goal of preventing and curing cancer.

Even though I have little interaction with patients, I am proud of the work we do to support clinical research at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center and beyond. Every member of the team makes an important contribution to ongoing efforts to improve diagnosis, treatment and quality of life for our patients.

I strive to be helpful, knowledgeable and approachable for every person at the Cancer Center who wants to better understand research regulations and guidelines. Having been a teacher early in my career, I try to foster an environment of continuous learning and improvement.

We are often the first voice patients hear, and I want to make their day a little brighter by being that listening ear. I enjoy being the warm, cheerful voice on the phone when they call. I try to empathize with what the patients are going through. I want to make sure their experience is positive and that they feel we are taking great care of them.

I come to work with a positive attitude, and I try and make my coworkers laugh so that each day we can keep each other upbeat.

It is a privilege to share the intimacies of patients’ lives with them. I enjoy getting to know what is important to them, and how I can help—whether it’s finding something to laugh at, explaining something they don’t understand or managing their symptoms. Helping patients and their families navigate the world of cancer motivates me to stay current with the latest information in the field. It is amazing how far cancer treatments have come in the 20 years I’ve been a nurse.

We do hard work in the Cancer Center, and it is a powerful shared experience. We have laughed and cried together, and I have enormous respect for each one of my coworkers and the jobs they do.
