I always consider what others may be going through.

I chose to work at Dartmouth-Hitchcock because of the compassionate care I received here as a patient. From this experience, I always pause to consider what others may be going through.

I enjoy getting to know patients. Seeing them as individuals with hopes, dreams and fears guides my approach with them, recognizing simple things, like knowing a patient enjoys reading or knitting.

I feel that my co-workers are comfortable coming to me with questions or for help solving a problem. I try to be flexible, which I know is appreciated. My work group is very knowledgeable, and I am fortunate to work with a group that is willing to share their knowledge with me.

I came to Dartmouth-Hitchcock soon after graduating from college. I wanted to be part of an organization that helps people.

I work with such a great group of people. We work as a team, and I strive to be a good team member. The relationships I’ve built with my co-workers brings me joy in my work. It takes all roles, big and small, to make a difference in patients’ lives. Successfully working together as a team creates a positive experience for our patients.

“A former colleague of mine once told me that if I don’t have the answer, I should always reply, ‘I don’t know, but I will find out for you.’ That’s always stayed with me.

I enjoy listening to patients’ stories, and catching up with our regular patients. I always try to be a positive support and sounding board for patients.

Our team of receptionists at Heater Road work very well together as a team. We support each other. If one of us is having a bad day, we help each other out.”

“I feel joy knowing that I can help patients find convenient appointments—thoughtfully coordinating all their care, especially when they travel long distances. I’ve enjoyed meeting patients and making lasting friendships. I met an elderly couple who became like grandparents to me. They often took me to lunch when they traveled up from Massachusetts for their appointments. They even bought me a wedding gift and knitted baby clothes when my son was born.

I’ve worked here since 1985, and one of my biggest assets is the knowledge I have to pass along, especially when training employees, as I did at the Connection Center. I’m always willing to go the extra mile when helping people.”
